Apart from two grammatical corrections, this is the exact text of an email
I sent to the Prime Minister's Office from his website on the 21st of July
2007.
I am extremely angry, disappointed and appalled. While you and your government continue to insist on making a scape-goat of Dr Haneef, you only prove yourself unworthy of government.
He is being nailed to the wall - his life ruined by implication - for offences that anyone could be guilty of - the crime of association (mostly in the past) with alleged criminals.
So far, no credible evidence has been presented that he is anything more than an innocent bystander, who showed generosity to his distant relative. What you and your government, the AFP, the attorney-general and the immigration minister in particular are doing, is nothing short of the worst kind of harassment! And in so doing, you are making Australia LESS safe, more effectively than any terrorist could. By following this course of action, you ostracise and radicalise more effectively than a recruitment office for Al Quaeda.
Just because you are not killing Dr Haneef or removing his limbs, it does not lessen your crime.
And if what you are doing is legal, then the law in Australia has the stink of totalitarianism. And that odour has come about under your watch.
That the opposition is not opposing in this case does not reflect well on you, but badly on them.
I am bitterly disappointed that you would pursue this current course of action, and then wash your hands of it as if it had nothing to do with you. You updated the laws on terrorism, your minister revoked a visa hours after a court granted bail. It looks like a duck, walks like a duck - it is in fact a duck. And in cricket terms a duck at the next election is what you will earn for your inhumane actions.
Regards
A constituent who still has compassion - something in short supply in Canberra these days.
